Dear Colleagues,

I would much appreciate your support in circulating to your networks. We are asking about all midwives working in all sectors and all UK countries and plan that this information will be helpful for the work of this group.

As part of the National Maternity Research Programme led by Professor Jane Sandall, Head of Midwifery and Maternity Research at NHS England, we are undertaking a survey which aims to understand more about the current Midwifery Research Leader environment in the UK. Little is currently known about the scope of midwives involvement as Research Leaders within maternity systems and academic institutions and information from this survey may be used to help inform future development of the midwifery research workforce and research leaders.

We would appreciate your assistance in taking part in this survey and in helping to share the survey links with your maternity networks and colleagues.

For the purposes of this survey Midwife Research Leaders are considered to be any midwife who is undertaking any of the following activities in the UK:

1. developing & leading maternity research i.e., as Chief Investigators
2. informing maternity research priorities at a regional or national level
3. building research capacity amongst midwives in the NHS/wider healthcare system
4. advising and influencing maternity policymakers
5. ensuring key research findings and evidence are accelerated into maternity
