Bio: Priya Sharma is a PhD student at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India. In her recently submitted doctoral work, she has employed the lens of feminist care ethics and reproductive justice to critically look at the ban on commercial surrogacy in India. Along with this, her research interests span across the issues of social justice in care work, midwifery, academia, and policymaking. She is an active member at Critical Midwifery Studies Collective and at South Asian Bioethics Community and has founded URHope-Foodbank, a unified platform which works towards food and other emergency needs of the marginalized sections in India.

Susana Ku is a Registered Midwife in Ontario, Canada. Before starting her career in Canada, she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Midwifery in Peru. She holds a master’s degree in Sexual and Reproductive Health, and she is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Global Health program at McMaster University. In addition to her academic background, she also acts as a clinical preceptor and midwifery instructor in the Midwifery education program in Peru and Canada. She is a Committee Member in the Virtual International Day of the Midwife Conference, a fellow at the McMaster Midwifery Research Centre, a member of the Critical Midwifery Studies Collective, and co-founder of the Spanish midwifery podcast “Voces de la Partería Global”. Her research interest focusses on international midwifery, midwifery in times of crisis, midwifery education, and reproductive justice.
